The Preamble

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic tranquillity, provide for the common defence, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

What the Preamble means to me:

I think that although we live in a much different time , consumed by political correctness and bipartisan bickering, that the main ideas of the preamble or not only evident in our lives but imperative for our future as a country. There are many ways one can choose to interpret what our forefathers had in mind when they wrote it, so I will share my views with you.

Establish Justice: To have a system of fair laws and fair enforcement of those laws. I also think this deals with the checks and balances that were established for the governing branches.

Insure Domestic Tranquillity: Along with justice and providing for the common defense I think that this means to provide a peace of mind for all citizens. To give you a country will you can grow in all aspects of your life, where you can raise a family with eclectic beliefs or ideas. To know that if you are lets say a farmer, that you can plow your fields without worry of your family or possessions being violated.

Provide for the Common Defense: To prevent invaders from storming or lands, or committing acts of terrorism on or soil. To preserve are way of life, and if need be with force, or in our current case, overseas. As the adage goes :Freedom is not Free."

Promote the General Welfare: This is the one that I feel is most debatable because it is left up to interpettion. When does the governments responsibility stop and when does personal responsibility begin. Of course no one wants people dying on the streets or starving without shelter. So there have been a number of entitlement programs throughout the years to help the American people who are struggling or disabled.. Unfortunately there our people who have taken advantage of this programs and have been a drain on the honest tax payer. It is almost impossible to have an entitlement program without running the risk of having it taken advantage of. I believe that help should be extend to those who truly need it and are willing to earn it, repay it, or contribute in some way after help has been received. Again this is a very tough task to determine those truly needing and those not, a task I would not want. So the debate will continue on where the line should be drawn. I just hope it will not be drawn so much on the governments side that we will be unable to cross back and thus become a nation dependent entirely on or government.

Secure the blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity: I think this is the summation of all the others working together in harmony.
